What is particular about selling in Cham?
The sale contract for a property in Cham is notarised by the municipal clerk’s office of Cham (Gemeindeschreiberei Cham). In the Canton of Zug the municipal clerks are responsible for contracts concerning land in their own municipality (§ 4 para. 2 Notarisation Act, BGS 223.1); lawyers may not notarise land sale contracts (§ 7 para. 2). The draft contract and the appointment therefore run through the municipality, whichever office you engage.
Cham had 18,518 residents on 31 December 2025 and is the third-largest municipality in the Canton of Zug (Office for Data and Statistics of the Canton of Zug). The municipal tax rate in 2026 is 54% of the simple tax (Zug cantonal tax administration). Besides Städtli and Kirchbühl on both banks of the Lorze, the municipality includes the districts of Enikon, Lindencham, Friesencham and Bibersee as well as Hagendorn, Niederwil and Rumentikon with the postcode 6332; the offices in the table are all in the 6330 area.
