What is particular about selling in Steinhausen?

The sale contract for a property in Steinhausen is notarised by the municipal clerk’s office of Steinhausen (Gemeindeschreiberei Steinhausen). In the Canton of Zug the municipal clerks are responsible for contracts concerning land in their own municipality (§ 4 para. 2 Notarisation Act, BGS 223.1); lawyers may not notarise land sale contracts (§ 7 para. 2). The draft contract and the appointment therefore run through the municipality, whichever office you engage.

With 504 hectares, Steinhausen is the smallest municipality in the canton by area and had 10,449 residents at the end of 2025. The municipal tax rate in 2026 is 53% of the simple tax, three points below 2023. The residential quarters of Öli and Goldermatten, Eschen and Höf, Hasenberg and Freudenberg were built from the 1970s onwards; the settlement area has hardly expanded since, which is why existing houses with a garden are sought after.
