What is particular about selling in Meilen?

The sale contract for a property in Meilen is executed as a notarised deed (öffentliche Beurkundung) by the Notariat, Grundbuch- und Konkursamt Meilen, the notary’s office, land registry (Grundbuchamt) and bankruptcy office at Dorfstrasse 81; it is responsible for Meilen and Herrliberg (Notaries’ offices of the Canton of Zurich). The draft contract and the appointment therefore run through this notary’s office, whichever agency you engage.

Meilen is the main town of the district of the same name and had 14,943 residents on 31 December 2025, against 13,515 ten years earlier (Statistical Office of the Canton of Zurich). The municipal tax multiplier (Steuerfuss) in 2026 is 79 % (2019 to 2022: 84 %); together with the cantonal multiplier of 95 % it comes to 174 %, excluding church tax (Municipality of Meilen). In 2025, 20 detached houses were sold in Meilen at a median price of CHF 2,955,005 and 51 owner-occupied flats at a median price of CHF 2,400,000 (Statistical Office of the Canton of Zurich).

The municipality comprises the quarters (Wachten) of Feldmeilen with Herrliberg-Feldmeilen station, Dorfmeilen with its station and ferry, Obermeilen and Bergmeilen with the hamlets towards the Pfannenstiel. The whole municipality has the postcode 8706; all offices in the table are located there as well.

How do you choose the right agent in Meilen?

Speak to two or three offices and ask all of them the same questions. How is the price arrived at? Who looks after you personally? Which sales in Meilen are documented? What does the fee include? None of the 10 offices publishes its fee; you learn the amount with the quotation for your property.
